ACC Covid 19 Healthcare Law WHO Entry Restriction & Global Preparedness Discussion

Historically, epidemics have made the healthcare world unprepared in many ways. Although it was often expected, the scale and scope of some historical epidemics were large and the virus quickly escaped from containment. This is true for COVID-19. To be sure, policymakers have done a lot of things right and wrong. There is a lot to analyze.

Your job is to craft a timeline for COVID-19 that outlines key decision points (at least five) that represent constructive or unsuccessful attempts to control the virus, especially from a legal / political perspective. The result is a three / four-page paper (dot-spaced with one narration spaced) outlining each decision point in chronological order as follows, and containing these elements:

1. Decision No., which should briefly list and describe the decision point, for example, the decision to ignore the initial attending physician’s advice

2. Date, for example, December 1917

3. Actor, such as US health officials

4. Analysis. For example, the decision to ignore evidence of an early outbreak in some rural California has allowed the virus to gain critical mass and rapidly spread between social groups. Citations are not required but reliable sources must be identified. For example, if you confirm that a procedure violates federal guidelines, refer to the instructions. If you claim that a public health measure was necessary (for example, quarantine of all public facilities), discuss legal and / or constitutional challenges. In your analysis, be sure to note the effect of a sequence of events in your schedule, for example, note how a previous action directly affected a later point.

5. Lessons learned, for example what is the principle of public health that can be taken forward from this situation, for example, the need for a comprehensive and timely reporting system from local authorities to the state. See an example format below.
